New Jersey Consumer Affairs has added 2 new requirements for 2025. This renewal season, you'll have to demonstrate proof of the following supporting documents:

  • Signed Application
  • Proof of General Liability Insurance
  • Proof of Workers' Comp Insurance - NEW Requirement!
  • Proof of License Bond (Notarized) - New Requirement!
  • Pay Registration Renewal Fee


You should begin the renewal process 90 days before the expiration date, which is March 31, 2025. 


If you miss the 03/3`/2025 deadline, you will have a 30-day grace period. After that you would need to apply for a reinstatement. During this lapse you cannot legally operate as a Home Improvement Contractor in New Jersey until your license is renewed or reinstated. Operating without a valid license may result in fines or legal action.

  • Digital Notary Public: $35.00
  • Merchant Fee: $39.38

Yes, you must provide current proof of general liability and worker's compensation insurance. If you are exempt from this requirement, we will obtain an updated Workers' Compensation Exemption for you. General Liability insurance is not exempt.


Processing times may vary, but it generally takes 1-2 weeks for the your application to be reviewed and approved. To avoid delays, we ask that you respond to our requests promptly

Failure to renew your registration on time can result in the suspension of your business operations, fines, and the possibility of legal action. You must apply for a reinstatement which costs more money and requires more steps. It's crucial to renew your registration before it expires to avoid these issues. 


You will receive a notice of issuance from Special Trade Services right away by email, followed by a renewed certificate directly from the NJ Consumer Affairs through the mail. Your renewed registration should arrive in the mail 7-10 days after 03/31/2025.
