To renew your NYC Home Improvement Contractor's License, we'll need your Record ID. This can be found on your renewal notice from DCWP. In addition, we'll request some supporting documents from you like proof of address, ID, and proof of Workers' Compensation insurance. You do not have to take the exam or be fingerprinted again, unless you are adding a new owner or officer. If your EPA RRP course has expired, you must renew that prior to applying for your license renewal.
You should begin the renewal process at least 90 days before the expiration date, which is February 28, 2025. Our early bird special is good through 11/30/2024. After that, our prices will gradually increase as we approach the deadline.
If you miss the 02/28/2025 deadline, you will have a 30-day grace period. After that you would need to apply for a new license and go through all of the new application requirements again including fingerprinting and exam. During this lapse you cannot legally operate as a Home Improvement Contractor in NYC until your license is renewed. Operating without a valid license may result in fines or legal action.

Yes, you must provide current proof of worker's compensation insurance. If you are exempt from this requirement, we will obtain an updated Workers' Compensation Exemption for you. General Liability insurance is not required.
Processing times may vary, but it generally takes 1-2 weeks for the DCWP to review and approve your renewal application. To avoid delays, we ask that you respond to our requests promptly

You will receive a notice of issuance from Special Trade Services right away by email, followed by a renewed certificate directly from the DCWP through the mail. Your renewed license will arrive in the mail 7-10 days after 02/28/2025.
